The Freud Research Group (FRG) exists since 1998 and meets twice a year. It was actively involved in the foundation of SIPP-ISPP in 2008.

The goal of its meetings is to establish a close reading of Freud’s texts and to discuss the philosophical relevance of these studies. Working languages are German, English and French.

The Group also regularly organizes symposia in cooperation with other international psychoanalytical societies and organisations (e.g. Freud-museum Vienna)

Several book publications (both monographs and collected volumes) came out of this cooperation e.g. Freud au cas par cas (Ed. Gilles Ribault, Louvain University Press, 2015), Dora, Hysteria and Gender (Ed. Daniela Finzi and Herman Westerink, Louvain University Press, 2018).

The group is co-responsible for the series ‘Figures of the Unconscious’ that is edited at Louvain University Press. This series publishes books in English on (the relation between) philosophy and psychoanalysis (https://lup.be/collections/series-figures-of-the-unconscious).
